2025 Glengarry Award Recipient

Launched by the Saskatchewan Foundation For the Arts (SFFA) 2021, the Glengarry Book Award Prize was created to support and foster Saskatchewan’s literary culture. The Glengarry Book Award Prize is an annual award for the first edition of an English language novel or book of short fiction. This award is the vision of donor and book lover Claire Kramer, a founding trustee of the SFFA.

The annual $20,000 (CAD) prize celebrates authors with Saskatchewan roots. In its fifth year, the SFFA is proud to announce Suzy Krause as this year’s recipient of the Glengarry Book Award Prize.

Suzy Krause
The Glengarry Book Award

Suzy Krause is a bestselling author from the Saskatchewan prairies. Her most recent novel, I Think We’ve Been Here Before, was a Goodreads Choice Awards finalist, won the City of Regina Book Award, and was shortlisted for the Book of the Year Award, the Fiction Award, and the Saskatchewan Publishing Award at the 2025 Saskatchewan Book Awards. It was chosen by the Literary Press Group of Canada as one of their 50 favourite reads from the past 50 years, and has been optioned for film. Valencia and Valentine, her debut novel, won an Earphones Award and Sorry I Missed You, her second book, was an Audible bestseller. Her books have been translated into Russian and Estonian and all three have been Amazon First Reads picks.

“I Think We’ve Been Here Before is a novel about a gamma ray burst that will end civilization right in the middle of the Christmas season. It’s a novel about déjà vu and quantum entanglement and death, but most importantly, it’s a novel about rural Saskatchewan and how the people in a tiny farming community come together at the end of the world. It was inspired by several things, including a recurring dream about the apocalypse, the world’s reaction to a global pandemic, and the tiny village in Southwest Saskatchewan where I grew up. The book sold to a major American publisher in 2023, but I asked my agent to hold back the Canadian rights so I could sell them separately to a small local press (Radiant Press). Because I Think We’ve Been Here Before was set in this province, I wanted to see it published here, by people who know this place and who would understand the characters and the setting. This has been extremely rewarding. I’ve been writing books set in Saskatchewan for my whole career, but this is the first time I’ve had one produced here, promoted here, and celebrated here. This award is a further extension of that and I’m so grateful for the chance to publicly say thank you to the Saskatchewan Foundation For the Arts for all they do for artists in this province. This award means the world to me, and the funding is invaluable—but even when I’m not the one receiving funding or promotion, I benefit enormously by experiencing the art of those who are. Thank you.

“I’m so incredibly thankful to Claire Kramer for establishing this award, for showing her belief in Saskatchewan literature in such a generous and tangible way. The Glengarry is a beautiful gift to this province—not just of financial support, but of validation and encouragement. Priceless, vital things. Thank you.”
